About Us

MISSION

To alleviate poverty through a community -based approach.

VISION

Our mission at Yayasan Sejahtera is driven by determination and purpose as we collaborate and partner effectively as a backbone organisation, driving targeted actions within marginalised communities, especially the B40 segment. We are here to uplift individuals towards economic independence by crafting pathways through programmes that generate income and building their capacity and resilience through community leadership and educational programmes.

Established on 4th September 2009, Yayasan Sejahtera is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) working on poverty eradication and community development for poor and low-income households in Malaysia. We were designed as a platform for Government Linked Companies (GLCs), Government Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) and corporate Malaysia to converge and deliver on sustainability development goals through corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects.

From our humble beginnings of supporting basic needs, we have evolved into a larger and more significant scope of community development. We focus on building community resilience and sustainable livelihood. We prioritise partnerships with the private and public sectors to ensure greater sustainability in our community development framework.

We serve adults, women, youth and children in the Bottom 40% of income earners (B40) in Malaysia through entrepreneurship development, skills development and community leadership programmes.

We are funded by corporations, Government Linked Companies (GLC), Government Linked Investment Companies (GLIC), Charity Foundations, Government grants and the public.

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

TAN SRI FAIZAH MOHD TAHIR

“Reflecting on Yayasan Sejahtera’s journey throughout 2022, I can’t help but feel a blend of humility and pride. It’s truly remarkable to witness the progress we have achieved and the impact we have made. Our foundation is deeply rooted in the mission of helping communities flourish, and even when faced with challenges, we never lost sight of our purpose. We remained steadfast in our commitment, demonstrating the profound positive change we can bring to people’s lives.”

Our path to empowering communities in 2022 has been marked by challenges and successes. Despite the twists and turns, the tangible progress we have achieved speaks volumes. We have touched hearts, ignited hope and initiated transformative change that has had a far-reaching impact.

The post-pandemic and devastating floods brought many people into poverty, but we didn’t hesitate to act. Instead, we remained focused on uplifting B40 communities, offering them opportunities for growth and advancement. Our programmes, such as the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) and Community Development Programme (CDP) provided essential support in education, healthcare and vocational training, equipping individuals and families with the skills and resources needed to overcome adversity.

As a result of our efforts and initiatives, we managed to assist over 13,060 families and 3,265 individuals in various regions. This delivered a remarkable 60.49% increase in average incomes, securing brighter futures for all.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the support of the companies that stood by our side. Therefore, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our esteemed funders – Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan Petronas, TEMASEK Foundation, TM Rovers, CIMB Foundation, Ministry of Finance, Westport Holding Berhad, Yayasan UEM, OCBC Bank Malaysia, Yayasan Chow Kit and the compassionate individuals who support Yayasan Sejahtera’s mission.

A sincere thank you also extends to everyone who led and supported us, including our Board of Trustees and our dedicated team. It’s your belief in our cause that has emboldened us to forge ahead, expanding our reach and effecting meaningful change.

As we courageously step into the forthcoming years, we’ll continue to cultivate resilient, self-reliant communities that share a common vision. Together, we can progressively enhance lives one step at a time.

Sincerely,

Tan Sri Faizah Mohd Tahir
